Former Cheshire police officer charged with stealing from union

CHESHIRE, Conn. (WTNH) — A
former Cheshire police officer is facing the other side of the law today.
46-year-old Jay Markella was
arrested and charged with stealing almost $21,000 from the police union.
He’s been charged with
Larceny. If convicted he could face up
to 20 years in prison and/or a $15,000 fine.
Markella served as the
treasurer for the union he allegedly stole from. He resigned from the Cheshire Police
Department in September of 2013.
