suspect while trying to shoot menacing dogs during arrest attempt
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus
police say a suspect was shot when an officer fired at aggressive dogs while
trying to arrest the man at his home.
Police said 28-year-old James
England was in critical condition following the Friday morning incident on the
city’s south side. A release says England was shot twice after he struggled
with officers trying to arrest him on a warrant for felonious assault.
During the struggle, two dogs
on the patio became aggressive with the officers, the release said. One officer
fired at the dogs as another officer used his stun gun on England.
England retreated into the
house and was found lying in a hallway with two gunshot wounds. The dogs were
removed by animal-control personnel.
It’s the fourth police-involved
shooting in the city so far this year
