charged with DUI after officer struck by patrol car

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - A Fort Pierce police
officer was arrested Wednesday on charges of driving under the influence after
investigators said he struck another officer with his patrol car.
Around 6 p.m., police said Ryan Steven Moore,
48, a four-year veteran police officer, was driving his patrol car in the
parking lot of the Port St. Lucie Police Department during a training exercise.
Investigators said Moore hit another officer
with the front bumper of his patrol car.
The officer who was hit was able to put his hands on the hood and take
his weight off his feet, according to the police report. The victim was not hurt but pushed back
several feet.
Moore was treated by fire rescue for a
possible seizure, which he had after the crash, and transported to the
hospital.
He was later charged after police said he
smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking.
"Driving under the influence represents
a deadly danger, and our officers are dedicated to protecting our community
from this danger. As with any DUI
arrest, this case will be referred to the State Attorney’s Office for
prosecution," said Chief R. Sean Baldwin.
Moore was arrested on one count of DUI,
booked into the Saint Lucie County Jail and released on $750 bond. He was
placed on administrative leave with pay.
Moore was hired by the Fort Pierce Police
Department in January 2009 as a police aide. He became a police officer in
December 2009.
