Wellington police officer charged with
assault
WICHITA, Kan. -
A Wellington police officer has been arrested
and charged over a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred on Sept. 15 at the
former home of David VanDyke, 32.
According to an incident report, VanDyke
grabbed another man's right arm and slapped his phone out of his hand. The man
was not hurt.
VanDyke was arrested for simple battery,
criminal damage to property and criminal threats.
Eyewitness News found out the case went
through the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office but was referred to
Wichita's municipal court.
Municipal court officials confirm VanDyke is
charged with assault and willful criminal damage to property.
VanDyke has worked for the Wellington Police
Dept. for three years. He is currently on leave pending the outcome of the
investigation.
