Former East Hartford Officer Gets Two Years For Possessing Child Pornography

HARTFORD — A former East Hartford police officer was sentenced in federal court Wednesday to two years in prison for possessing child pornography, the U.S. Attorney's office said.


Andrew W. Nielsen, 50, of South Windsor, pleaded guilty in March to possessing child pornography.
In addition to two years in prison, U.S. Judge Alfred V. Covello ordered him to submit to five years of court supervision upon his release.
Windsor (Hartford, Connecticut) South Windsor Nielsen purchased several DVDs from a foreign company that contained child pornography that were sent to his house between November 2010 and April 2011, the U.S. Attorney's office said.
Nielsen was a police officer in East Hartford until he left his position after his arrest in November 2012.
He was ordered to report to prison on Sept. 8.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
