Suspended Detroit police
officer arrested on suspicion of impaired driving
An already-suspended Detroit
police officer was arrested Sunday afternoon for suspected impaired driving
after causing an accident on Detroit’s west side, Detroit police have
confirmed.
Shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday,
“a suspended officer was driving westbound on Plymouth and turned into an
oncoming car that was traveling eastbound on Plymouth, causing an accident,”
said Detroit Police Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson.
After 911 was called, “the
officers arrived and arrested the suspended officer while operating while
impaired,” said Johnson.
“The officer was then conveyed
to the detention center,” he said shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday night.
Johnson did not say why the
officer had been previously suspended, nor identify the officer.
The officer was not injured,
said Johnson, nor was the driver of the other car. A passenger in the car that
was hit complained of stomach pains and was taken to the hospital, Johnson
said.
