It was a typical warm September
day near Bachman Lake in Dallas when police say police 28 year old La’Cori
Johnson was on duty, in uniform and on patrol.
According to an arrest
affidavit Johnson detained two women along the 9300 block of Larga Drive.
He ran a computer check and
told the woman he’s accused of raping that she had an outstanding warrant–and
then things when south.
Johnson then asked the 2nd
woman to leave and told the victim to get into the back of the squad where she
started crying.
According to the arrest
affidavit Johnson asked her “why are you crying? you don’t have to go to jail
if you do what I tell you to do.”
Johnson then drove about a mile
away to the 3300 block of Storey Lane where he parked behind the Pecan Square
Apartments and forced her to have oral sex and intercourse.
People who live the
neighborhood like Veronica Espino are stunned.
“Well,” Veronica paused. “I was
sort of shocked just because you know you’re supposed to sort of rely on them.”
Dallas police declined to
comment but according to the affidavit the woman told police she had sex with
Johnson because he was he was an “armed police officer and (she) was afraid of
going to jail.”
Johnson was reportedly
questioned by internal affairs on Tuesday; he then resigned and was arrested.
Johnson seemed to have it
all–in 2007 he played wide receiver at SMU. Tonight he’s a former Dallas police
officer accused of rape.
“I’ve heard a little where I
work and they do seem kind of concerned about it,” Veronica said. “The cops
already have a bad reputation to begin with, not around here but what’s coming
from the media and this just kind of takes a blow.”
