Samson Lawrence, MPD officer, charged with trying to kill wife

(WJLA) - A D.C. police officer has been indicted on charges that he attacked, beat and tried to kill his wife in Prince George's County just before Thanksgiving.
Samson Lawrence, a Metropolitan Police Department officer, has been charged with first and second degree attempted murder and several other charges after the Nov. 24 incident, during which he allegedly beat the victim with a light post and held her at knifepoint.
The attack began when Lawrence's wife was not able to find a set of screws he needed while installing a television in their home. In a fit of rage, authorities say he began spraying Lysol in his wife's face every time she tried to talk. He then began pushing the woman when she refused to make him something to eat.
Officials say that when his wife tried to call 911, Lawrence grabbed the phone away, and when she tried to leave the house, he pushed her to the floor and began hitting her in the head with a metal light post.
The incident escalated once Lawrence's wife got free and tried to leave the house again. At that point, officials say Lawrence forced her into a corner, held knives to her face and throat and threatened to cut her. She was able to get free once again, though, and got to a neighbors house.

By the time authorities responded to the home, Lawrence was gone, but he was found and taken into custody the next day.
